*July 2014

The NWCO Steam Basketball Program is proud to announce two sharpshooters had great success at the Midwest National Event in Ft. Wayne, Indiana from July 20-23.  Brian Collier of Pleasant took third at his sixth grade level in the national event, drilling ten 3’s in one minute.  Furthermore, Ried Jury of George Washington Elementary claimed second in the fourth grade national shootout, canning eight 3’s in one minute.  Both players were recognized with special awards.

 

 

*February 5th, 2015:

The NWCO Steam Basketball Program played at the "Q", Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arana, before the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angelos Clippers NBA contest.  The Steam played against and in conjuction with the Mansfield Cavs, another elite AAU program.  Steam Players experienced the Cavs floor, winning in the last few seconds over Mansfield.  Fourteen members of the Steam Program, coached by Roger Jury, Mike Myers, and John Riedel, were in attendance along with many family members.  The Steam and Cavs programs were also selected to return to the main floor in the pre-game to form a fan tunnel for the visiting Clippers.  Players and coaches gave "high fives" to the likes of Chris Paul (CP3) and Blake Griffin while finding themselves on the jumbo tron!  THe night concluded with the entire group of players and praents ecperiencing the 12th consectutive win for the Cleveland Cavaliers!

 

Spring/Summer 2015:

The NWCO Steam enjoyed a very successful Spring and Summer!  See tournaments schedule for dates and results!

The team concluded the season with an 8th grade Gold Bracket Championship and a 6th gade Bronze Championship in Ft. Wayne, Indiana!

 

March 2016:

The NWCO Steam Basketball 6th grade played at the "Q" once again. The Steam played against and in conjuction with the Dutchtown Dawgs, a sister AAU program.  Steam Players experienced the Cavs floor for two 30-minute games and then attended the Cavs' game vs the Houston Rockets.  What a night!

Spring/Summer 2016:

The NWCO Steam Basketball Program once again had a tremendous spring and summer!

 

The program works with student athletes in all grade levels, both male and female, but has two high-level travel groups of young men representing the class of 2010 (rising freshmen) and the class of 2022 (rising 7th graders).  The team played in some local tournaments but also competed and faired very well in state, regional, and national events.

 

The class of 2020 won the Beast from the East (5-0), Tiffin Spring Shootout (5-0), Jamie Skelton Shootout (3-0), Mansfield Tyger Challenge (4-0), Tiffin May Classic (4-0), and the Midwest Sumer Slam in Ada (4-0).  The team also placed third in the elite level of the King James Classic (5-1), losing to Florida’s second ranked team.  The team also captured third in the Memorial Run & Shoot in Ft. Wayne (4-1).  This class of 2020 Steam team also participated in the prestigious Buckeye Prep Invitational where it competed evenly with top teams. 

 

To conclude the season the rising freshmen Steam team took runners-up in the AYBA Nationals at the Spookynook Complex in Manheim, PA.  The team also did well individually in that week-long event.  Harley Day (North Union) and Jordyn Jury (Hopewell-Loudon) were named to the all-tournament team.  Jury also captured the 3-poing shootout contest.  Other winners were Jacob Halko (Eastwood) in the hotshot competition and Travis Milligan (Hopewell-Loudon) in free-throw shooting.

 

Team members include:  Jordyn Jury and Kyle Rumschlag (Hopewell-Loudon), Mitch Myers (Marion City), Carson Smith (North Union), Brian Collier and Luke Lachey (Grandview Hts), Braxton Reed (Pleasant), Evan Young and Mason Vent (Upper Sandusky), Levi Gazarek (North Baltimore).  In addition, the following players competed in various tournaments and/or in the summer:  Harley Day (North Union), Travis Milligan (Hopewell-Loudon), Jacob Siesel (Seneca East). Jacob Halko (Eastwood), Mason Lentz (Elmwood), Carson Houck and Tommy Stauffer (Cory Rawson), Carson Steyer (Old Fort), and Mitch Priest (Newark Catholic).

 

The class of 2022 competed in the same tournaments and played up at times, but began a month later.  The rising 7th grade Steam team won its pool in the prestigious Buckeye Prep Invitational and claimed third place – losing to Team Teague, one of the nation’s top teams.  The team claimed pool championships at the Mansfield Tyger Challenge and the Tiffin May Classic (finished runners-up), and the high-level Memorial Run & Shoot Classic in Ft. Wayne (finished third).  The Steam class of 2022 also competed this season at the AYBA national event at the Spookynook Complex in Manheim, PA.  This group of young men finished 4th!  Ried Jury (Hopewell-Loudon) and Trey Paxton (Willard) were named to the all-tournament team while Jury captured the 3-point shootout title and Bryce Burns (Tiffin) won the class of 2022 hotshot competition.

Team members include:  Bryce Burns and Logan Beaston (Tiffin), Ried Jury and Walker Suter (Hopewell-Loudon), Brayden Boyd (River Valley), Colin Nutter and Casey Clouse (Old Fort), Will Heisler and Grant Welsch (Jonathan Alder), Trey Paxton (Willard), Luke Denbow (Ashland), and Mason Studer (Colonel Crawford).  In addition, the following players competed in various tournaments and/or in the summer:  Amare Pedraza (Marion City), Carter Valentine (Galion), Alec Gordon (Ridgedale), Cole Weiss (Willard), Andrew Shawberry (Tiffin), and Luke Krouse (Antwerp).
